ABOUT SUBMENTAL FULLNESS
Do you have some extra fullness beneath your chin? Maybe it’s something you’ve had your whole life, something that developed over the years, or something you noticed recently. This is a condition called submental fullness, which some people refer to as “double chin.”
What causes submental fullness?
Both men and women may be affected by submental fullness, which can be caused by:
You don’t have to be overweight to have fullness under your chin. And sometimes, no matter how much you exercise or diet, the condition may not go away.
Put your best chin forward with KYBELLA…
KYBELLA™ is the first and only injectable drug approved by the FDA to define and contour jawline fullness commonly referred to as the double chin.
In the past, this fullness (called submental fat), has been treatable only with a surgical procedure called liposuction which requires significant downtime for recovery. Now, there is a non-surgical alternative. Because KYBELLA destroys the fat cells, fat can no longer be stored in that area, which makes the treatment permanent. This is a permanent alternative treatment to liposuction with no surgery and no downtime.
KYBELLA® may be right for you if:
- You’re bothered (unhappy, self-conscious, embarrassed) by fat under the chin,
- You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are,
- You don’t want to have surgery,
- You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away.
Multiple injections under the chin per treatment; up to 6 treatments spaced at least 1 month apart. 59% of patients received 6 KYBELLA® treatments in clinical studies. Treatment is tailored to the amount of fat under the chin and aesthetic goals.
HOW KYBELLA® WORKS
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA®destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
WHAT TO EXPECT
KYBELLA treatments are customized based on your unique anatomy. In your consultation, Dr. Hughes will discuss your aesthetic goals to determine if you are a candidate and then design a plan to help you achieve the best results. Most patients require 2 to 4 sessions spaced about 6 – 8 weeks apart. Each treatment session includes multiple injections to specific injection sites under the chin. The average treatment session includes 20 -30 quick injections (similar to a Botox injection session) with topical anesthetic is applied to help maintain your comfort. The most common side effects are minor bruising, swelling at the site of injection and mild tenderness. Some patients have experienced hardness in the area injected which resolves within a few weeks.
WHAT IS THE COST?
Because your KYBELLA treatment is customized to your specific needs, the cost varies from patient to patient. The number of injections needed per treatment and the number of treatment sessions needed will determine the cost. On average, Kybella costs $1,350-$1,500 per session and can take upto 3-6 treatments (although most patients only require 2-4 treatments for optimal results). Money saving packages are available. This is a permanent alternative treatment to liposuction with no surgery and no downtime.
