FAQs

Q: What is the difference between DiamondGlow™ and Microdermabrasion?

A: While both DiamondGlow™ and Microdermabrasion remove a portion of the upper layer of the skin (stratum corneum), the DiamondGlow™ treatment is much more controlled & consistent in the way it operates.  Rather than blasting particles at skin (as with older microdermabrasion devices) or pushing an abrasive tip across the skin by hand, DiamondGlow™ uses the controlled vacuum pressure to pull the skin up into a chamber in the handpiece.  In this way, the skin is evenly abraded just as aggressively or as softly as the vacuum pressure is set by the skincare professional. This is significant, because all other devices rely on the operator for consistency to apply the same pressure, at the same speed, consistently over the skin.

The process of controlled exfoliation, or microdermabrasion is where the comparisons
stop sine this is ALL that classic microdermabrasion has to offer.  However, it is just the beginning of the actual DiamondGlow™ treatment. With a DiamondGlow™, that same controlled vacuum pressure that is used to pull the skin into the chamber, allowing the diamond abrasive tip to very consistently remove the butter most layer of skin (dead cells, debris, etc), is also driving a condition-specific topical solution deep into the skin, right down to the dermal junction where the skin cells are regenerating.

DiamondGlow™ is exclusively offered through facilities with medical directors on staff, & isn’t available at a typical day spa or salon.

Q: How is DiamondGlow™ different than Hydrafacial?

A: Hydrafacial is a wonderful spa treatment, whereas DiamondGlow™ is a deeper clinical treatment. We like to say Hydrafacial is a treat, while DiamondGlow™ is a treatment.

Q: Can I combine a DiamondGlow™ with other available services in a single appointment?

A: It depends.  For instance, some services are not only possible to combine with your DiamondGlow™, but are even beneficial dependent on your skin-type, needs and goals.  You can combine a dermaplane, superficial chemical peel, hot towel pre-treatment, manual pore extraction, LED LightStim Treatment, or even a hand & cuticle mask with your DiamondGlow™ facial.  Your DiamondGlow™ can be scheduled in succession with your dental cleaning & exam too or professional smile whitening, but it cannot be scheduled with or sooner than two weeks following your facial injectables appointment. Of course, any additional services are at an added fee to your standard DiamondGlow™, but it should be noted that facial add-ons are at a significantly reduced cost to our patients than they would be as standalone procedures.  See our facial menu for money saving packages & à la carte add-ons.  See the section below for additional info on the cost of DiamondGlow™.

Things you should know before your appointment…

  • Your appt will take 30-60 min depending on your individualised treatment (standard DiamondGlow™ versus an upgraded treatment), so plan accordingly around other obligations in your schedule.
  • DiamondGlow is an aesthetic treatment & therefore is not covered by any type of insurance coverage.  Payment for the service is due upon treatment dismissal & starts out at $175 for a basic treatment w/ hydrating or vitamin C serums, and increases from there for add-on services (see our facial menu for more info) or upgraded serums (pore-clarifying or skin-brightening are an additional $20).  There are money saving packages & memberships available.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure.
  • Stop retinoids/acids: Refrain from using retinoids or acids for at least 3 days prior to your treatment.
  • No injectables in the 2 weeks prior to treatment including Botox, fillers, Kybella, Sculptra or threads.
  • Show up to your appt w/ a clean, makeup free face if at all possible.
    • If this isn’t possible, then please arrive 15 minutes early for your appt & advise our reception team of your need to prep for your appointment so your ready to go at your appointment time.
  • Discuss health conditions w/ us.  Patients who have diabetes, autoimmune disease, history of cold sores or have had injectable fillers in the area to be treated should let us know prior to treatment.
  • There’s no downtime w/ this procedure, so no need for special planning.  You can return to normal activities immediately.
  • You can apply makeup immediately after your procedure although you may not want to cover up how fresh & clean your skin feels.  Mineral makeup is recommended as it heals & soothes the skin without irritation post procedure, and can cover up possible redness which should lighten after a few hours.
    • We suggest Jane Iredale as it is a skincare makeup w/ >98% minerals.  Ask our esthetician to introduce you to the line.
  • Even one treatment can refresh the skin, but like all professional facials, DiamondGlow™ yields best results when done regularly (professional skincare treatments are suggested monthly for the health & beauty of your skin).  This is especially critical when targeting skin issues.
    • For most patients, treatments are scheduled monthly-bimonthly. **Ask us about our facial memberships for savings while treating your skin in the manner it deserves.
    • For specific skin conditions such as (acne or hyperpigmentation), a series of 4-6 treatments may be suggested with sessions spaced every two weeks until the condition is managed where a maintenance routine will then be suggested based on individual results.

*Disclaimer: Individual results may vary depending on each patient

After your treatment…

  • You’ll be pink-red immediately following your treatment.  This is normal.  For most patients this subsides in a couple hours following the procedure, but for some it may last 12-48 hours dependent on skin-type & custom settings of your procedure.
  • Although all exfoliation produces temporary sensitivity from fresh skin being exposed, the skin is refined, but not irritated post treatment.  Because of this:
    • Avoid heat (sun, showers, swimming, & jacuzzis).
    • Avoid harsh products for 3-5 days including retinoids or other acids (such as AHA/BHA acids, salicylic acid & antioxidants.
      • These products in the SkinMedica line may include: Retinol, AHA/BHA exfoliation cleanser or cream, Purifying Foaming Wash, Acne Treatment Lotion, TNS Essential, Lumivive, Vitamin C & E Complex.
    • Use SPF daily. This will insure the best result possible. Personalized skincare products, including SPF, will be applied to your treatment area(s) prior to appointment dismissal as part of your service. We suggest SkinMedica’s Essential Defense Mineral Shield for post-op skin.
    • Do not wax the treated area for 7 days following your treatment.
    • No laser work to the treated area for 7 days following your treatment.
    • Do not exfoliate (including the use of mechanical scrubs or devices) for 7 days.
  • No injectables for a minimum of 7 days following your treatment including Botox, fillers, Kybella, Sculptra or threads.
  • Patients with a history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores): When treating the lips or areas around the mouth in patients who have a history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores), the procedure may elicit an outbreak.  Call our office if you feel an outbreak coming on so an antiviral may be prescribed in cases where one is needed.  Remember, these medications only work if taken prior to the onset of an outbreak, and not after an outbreak is already visible.
  • No downtime.  Patients can return back to work post treatment or resume their everyday routine (other than the above listed items above).
Ask our aesthetician to introduce you to the line.
  • Continued care: Like all professional facials, DiamondGlow™ yields best results when done regularly, but this is especially critical when targeting skin issues, so don’t forget a followup. Professional facials are suggested monthly for the health & beauty of your skin.
  • Your skin immediately looks clearer & brighter.  It’ll feel smoother & your makeup will go on more easily.  Regardless of condition being treated (hyperpigmentation, acne, stretch marks), ALL skin treated with Dermalinfusion is 70% more volumized for up to 72 hours following the procedure. This means skin is smoothed, plumped, hydrated, and healthy.
